Outreach Assistant
Length of Commitment: 5-10 hours/ week Length of Project: 6 months minimum Time Requirements: Initial orientation/ training: 60 minutes. Gleaning Activities: 90-120 minutes weekly. Volunteer Outreach: 120 minutes weekly. Job Description: Assist the GleanSLO coordinator in organizing volunteers at the weekly gleans. Help with volunteer recruitment, management and retention. Be available at most of the gleans to lead trainings and supervise volunteers. Special Skills Required: Ability to lead trainings and manage volunteers; strong organizational skills; good communication skills; punctual, hard-working, and organized. Valid driver's license preferred. Volunteer Rewards and Benefits: The GleanSLO Volunteer Outreach Assistant will gain valuable experience through their work both behind the scenes and at the harvests. They will gain hands-on experience in recruiting, training, and managing volunteers, as well as marketing, community outreach, and event planning. |
Volunteer Title: Gleaning Operations Manager
Length of Commitment: 5-8 hours/week Length of Project: 6 months minimum Time Requirements: Initial orientation/ training: 60 minutes. Gleaning: setup/ harvest/breakdown: 3-8 hours/week. Some schedule flexibility. Usually gleans occur on Friday afternoons or Saturday mornings. Job Description: Operate the weekly harvests under the supervision of the GleanSLO coordinator. This person would pick up the Food Bank truck from the Oceano Warehouse and ensure that the needed equipment is loaded in the truck. Must have valid driver’s license and have a flexible schedule. Gleans take place once a week between Thursday and Sunday. There is some flexibility on when they occur. Once on site, the Operations Manager would help load the crates to the truck and transport the bins to and from the fields. After the glean is complete, the Operations Manager is responsible for loading the equipment back into the truck and returning to the warehouse. Special Skills Required: Valid driver’s license; Ability to lift over 40 pounds and perform repetitive standing and squatting movements to get on and off the truck; Punctual, passionate and a hard worker! Volunteer Rewards and Benefits:The GleanSLO Gleaning Operations Manager will gain valuable managerial experience as well as behind the scenes and hands-on involvement working with this newly developing program. You will work closely with the Food Bank staff and build relationships with both employees and the volunteers. This is a great way to be able to be outside and moving around and still have a huge impact on our community. |
